A New Year, A New Start In 2006 the people of Liverpool have a chance to change their City for the better, by choosing an elected leader to give Liverpool the vision and direction it’s crying out for. amayorforliverpool.org has drawn attention to the sense of drift over Capital of Culture and to the way that creative Liverpool people are being sidelined as the number of “culturecrats” balloons. Mike Storey admits what we have been saying. Its clear that while in office Councillor Storey was unable to address the shortcomings of the Capital of Culture project. I believe only a directly elected mayor, chosen by Liverpool people, will have the authority and the mandate to make sure opportunities like 2008 aren’t wasted. The old year ends with a reminder of how town hall infighting and weak leadership are costing Liverpool dear. In 2006 people power can deliver the leadership our city needs.
