About Us
amayorforliverpool.org is an independent campaign affiliated to no political party.
We want the people of Liverpool to be able to choose a directly-elected Mayor to lead our city.
Prominent Liverpudlians backing our campaign include former Public Health Director Professor John Ashton, business guru Professor Tom Cannon, community organiser Dorothy Kuya,
KIND childrens charity founder Stephen Yip MBE,
regeneration expert Hilary Burrage, award-winning local authors Frank Cottrell-Boyce, Paul du Noyer and Brian Jacques and other business and community leaders.
We believe only an Elected Mayor can provide the vision and leadership Liverpool needs and deserves.
People are frustrated and disillusioned by years of political in-fighting at the Town Hall.
Too many decisions are taken by invisible committees and un-elected officials. Important projects fail to materialise, yet no-one takes responsibility.
We believe that an Elected Mayor - who will answer directly to the people of Liverpool through the ballot box - will have the authority to carry through the important changes Liverpool needs.
Only an Elected Mayor can reach out to the large numbers of Liverpudlians who are switched off by local politics, and don't vote in local elections.
More than 30 British towns and cities have had mayoral referendums since 2001.
It's time the people of Liverpool had their say.
It's time for A Mayor For Liverpool.
